410 West 13th Street
Situated at the heart of the Gansevoort Market Historic district, this contemporary addition to one of Manhattan’s most dynamic neighborhoods required a strong team to shepherd the project through a myriad of city agencies, including coordinating closely with the Landmarks Preservation Commission and Board of Standards and Appeals.
“The 70,000 square foot through-block building houses a mix of high-end retail and boutique office tenants, with a strong storefront presence on both West 13th and Little West 12th Streets. The design retains the landmark “Elevator Building” at 414 West 13th Street, integrating the existing building through a series of interior openings and a set-back addition on the Elevator Building’s roof. The new design features a combination of black ironspot brick, large operable steel factory windows, and glass and steel marquees designed to echo and honor the neighborhood’s gritty past, harmonizing with the adjacent industrial vernacular while employing a sophisticated material palette that befits a hotbed of New York city fashion, nightlife, and culture.”
